The United States and Russia clashed Monday over the staffing allowed at their respective embassies despite the latest talks aimed at bringing more stability to a turbulent relationship.
In an interview, the Russian ambassador in Washington, Anatoly Antonov, deplored what he called expulsions of Moscow s diplomats, saying the United States had become persistent and creative in this business by uniquely limiting Russians to three-year visas.

The Russian ambassador to the United States says Washington has ordered 24 Russian diplomats to leave the country by Sept. 3, a move that comes shortly after the U.S. said it had laid off nearly 200 local staffers working for its diplomatic missions in Russia.
They are the latest in a series of measures taken by both sides that have strained U.S.-Russia relations, although the State Department denied that its move was retaliatory.
In an interview with The National Interest magazine, ambassador Anatoly Antonov said the embassy received a list of 24 Russian diplomats who are expected to leave the U.S. by Sept. 3.

North Korean authorities recently ordered workplaces employing North Koreans workers or traders in China to report lists of employees who missed work due to sickness or who have abandoned their places of employment.
North Korea appears to have begun preparations to repatriate some of its citizens in China, something it has been unable to properly do since closing the North Korea-China border last year due to COVID-19.
In a telephone conversation with Daily NK last Thursday, a source in China said an order had come from North Korea to “write-up and submit a list of workers who cannot work due to sickness or injury.”
