Education Minister Adimulapu Suresh on Saturday said the State government would not cancel the Class X (SSC) and Intermediate final examinations for the academic year 2020-21, but prepare to conduct the exams under the safest conditions.
Speaking to newsmen here, Mr. Suresh said that parents were demanding that the State government assure the safety of their children while conducting the examinations. “We are also concerned about it and postponed the final examinations owing to the spread of COVID-19. However, there has been no demand from parents to cancel the examinations,” he said.

St Xavier’s College (Autonomous) has used money it had received under a central scheme to set up a “wellness centre” for students and staff.
The 1200sq ft facility houses a gym and a yoga centre. Programmes on mental health will also be held, said an official of the college.
The new centre, which has come up near the library, was inaugurated on Saturday by Father Dominic Savio, principal of the college. Father Savio spent some time on an indoor cycle after the inauguration.

Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, which recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital (TVCMH) to carry out multi-disciplinary research in medical sciences, has identified a new element while analysing clinical thyroid samples. “We are pursuing a detailed research in this direction,” said K. Pitchumani, Vice-Chancellor, who was previously CSIR Emeritus Scientist in the School of Chemistry, Madurai Kamaraj University. “We will tell you about the element after a key member of the research team will be back from his medical leave soon,” he said.
