New Delhi: Amid the acute shortage of medical oxygen in several parts of the country, Roll On Roll Off Oxygen Express, with seven cryogenic tankers, arrived at Nagpur Junction Railway from Visakhapatnam on Friday (April 23) evening. The train arrived at Nagpur at 8.10 pm, bringing some relief to the state which is reeling under a surge in coronavirus cases and shortages of medical oxygen. According to ANI report, at least three of the seven tankers were unloaded at Nagpur Junction railway station. The train carrying the large oxygen tankers pulled out from a facility run by Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL) in Visakhapatnam on Thursday evening.

“Each tanker has been loaded with 15 tonnes of LMO (liquid medical oxygen) and the train started to move towards Maharashtra in the evening,” the railways said.
India’s “Oxygen Express” train made a first run today from Visakhapatnam to Maharashtra, where COVID-19 cases have been rising fast and hospitals have been gasping for oxygen supply to treat critical patients. The train carrying large oxygen tankers left the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL) facility at Visakhapatnam this evening.
“Seven empty tankers from… Maharashtra reached at Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited, Visakhapatnam early morning today. Liquid medical oxygen (LMO) has been filled in the tankers since morning,” the railways said in a statement.

Until now, RINL on an average was supplying 100 tonnes oxygen daily to Andhra Pradesh and adjoining states.

In the last one week, RINL has supplied about 800 tonnes oxygen, a company spokesperson said, adding we can support till 100-150 tonne per day depending on demand.
