VIJAYAWADA: The State government has roped in the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) and Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), to strengthen oxygen supply network.As per the directive of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, Principal Secretary (Transport) MT Krishna Babu on Saturday held talks with the ENC and RINL officials to overcome the shortage of oxygen.

Disclosing this to mediapersons, AP Principal Secretary (Health) Anil Kumar Singhal said now with Navy chipping in, the oxygen supply chain to hospitals would be further strengthened.

As per the directive of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, AP Principal Secretary (Transport) MT Krishna Babu on Saturday held talks with the ENC and RINL to overcome the shortage of oxygen. The Indian Navy has agreed to transport 25 cryogenic tankers of liquid oxygen from Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia to AP.

India: Bangalore sanitation workers protest for personal protective equipment
Sanitation workers in Bangalore, the Karnataka state capital, protested on Tuesday to demand personal protective equipment, such as masks and gloves, whilst at work. The sanitation workers, popularly known as pourakarmikas, are frontline employees, daily exposed to possible infection from COVID-19 and its variants.
Workers said they were forced to handle dangerous and hazardous medical waste with their bare hands and that many households did not separate their waste. The highly exploited, mainly female employees complained that they do not have access to toilets, sanitisers or canteens during working hours.

Steel plants in India enhance oxygen production
As the Government has allowed setting up of 551 plants for producing liquid medical oxygen (LMO) across the country, the Ministry of Steel has informed that there are 33 oxygen plants in India including those in the private sector and against the 2,834 metric tonnes of daily LMO production capacity in the steel sector, the production as on April 24 was 3,474 metric tonnes.
