MORE than half of the staff who have worked on a Covid-19 ward at the Dudley Group of hospitals felt ill due to work-related stress amid the coronavirus crisis, according to an NHS survey. The annual NHS Staff Survey 2020 has revealed the toll of the pandemic on staff at trusts across England. At the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Russells Hall Hospital and the Corbett and Guest Outpatient Centres, almost 54 per cent of staff looking after Covid patients said they had felt unwell as a result of work-related stress in the last 12 months. While 58.3 per cent of staff who had worked on a Covid ward said they had attended work in the last three months despite not feeling well enough to perform their duties - despite guidance stating people should stay at home and isolate if unwell to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.
TRIBUTES have been paid to a hardworking and popular former Quarry Bank shopkeeper who has died of coronavirus aged 91. Ida Cartwright ran Cartwright s grocers and general store in New Street with the help of her husband Roy for around 40 years, becoming a popular face in the area. Ida died at Russells Hall Hospital on February 4 after contracting coronavirus. Former neighbours came out to pay tribute to Ida as her funeral procession drove past the site of her former shop last Tuesday (March 4). Daughter Pamela Binek-Bradbury, aged 63, said: Cartwright s was one of the first mini-supermarkets. Everyone knew mum and dad - they were popular faces in Quarry Bank.

Nathan was a resident DJ at Monty s club in High Street, Sedgley. He took to the decks on Saturday nights under the nickname Nathan B-Line. The club paid tribute to Nathan saying the vibrant character was the life and soul of Saturday Nights at Monty s. Nathan was also part of the popular DJ trio Warp Addicts, along with Mark Cresswell, also known as Crezza, and Chris Gibbons, in the mid to late 2000s.

NHS England figures show 712 people had died in hospital at The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust as of 5pm yesterday (Sunday March 7). That was an increase of seven compared to Friday, when there were 705. It means there have been 14 deaths in the past week, up from 11 the previous week. The victims were among 17,428 deaths recorded across the midlands, which is the worst affected of England s seven NHS regions. Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.
