Mexico s Pato O Ward seized his first IndyCar victory on Sunday, powering home to win the second race of the weekend doubleheader at Texas Motor Speedway ahead of Josef Newgarden.
O Ward, four days shy of his 22nd birthday, took the lead from two-time IndyCar champion Newgarden with 23 laps remaining on the 1.5-mile oval in Fort Worth, Texas.
After he was unable to get by Newgarden on the outside, O Ward dived inside the American and went on unchallenged to win by 1.2443sec.

The on-track action in Saturday night’s Genesys 300 at Texas Motor Speedway saw sparks and flames, a mirror of the high emotions between Jack Harvey and Graham Rahal well after Scott Dixon ended the night in Victory Lane.
Exiting Turn 2, Rahal attempted to pass Harvey on the inside, but Harvey had begun to change his line toward the inside, as well. The two continued toward the bottom of the racetrack, and Rahal dipped below the white line to avoid hitting Harvey.
As they approached Turn 3, Rahal got the better of the pair as Harvey backed off and let him have the position. INDYCAR race stewards ruled that the action was a racing incident, and Rahal went on to finish fifth, Harvey seventh.

Newgarden Quickest in Full-Field Indy 500 Test Session at IMS

If the first full-field test session at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is any indication, it s been a good offseason for some of the big names on the NTT IndyCar Series grid.
Team Penske s Josef Newgarden was quickest in a Friday test session that attracted 31 Indianapolis 500 hopefuls. Newgarden s top speed was 226.819 mph. The only other two drivers to top 226 were a pair of two-time Indy 500 winners in defending champion Takuma Sato and Juan Pablo Montoya.
