BELLOWS FALLS â Bellows Falls residents wonât be voting next month on an advisory opinion on whether to allow retail cannabis sales in the village.
Citing a lack of interest and support, Village President Deborah Wright said at Tuesday nightâs Village Board of Trustees meeting that she wouldnât even ask for a formal vote from the board about putting it on the Village Meeting warning.
Wright said she just wanted people to have the chance to weigh in on the issue, which would ultimately be decided by the Rockingham Select Board and a townwide vote. Under state law, communities have to vote to opt in to the state cannabis system.

Obstacles to the Depot Street Bridge replacement project in Bellows Falls, Vt., have reinvigorated a community debate between replacing the bridge at its existing site or constructing an alternative, angled bridge that would shift the flow of traffic further north, an option which is favored by many economic-development proponents.
Officials from the nearby Town of Rockingham and the Village of Bellows Falls learned March 30 that the town s plan to replace the historic Depot Street Bridge with a similar concrete arch design will not be economically viable, due to engineering challenges and related impacts that would drive the cost well beyond what the state originally anticipated.

BELLOWS FALLS â Rockingham and Bellows Falls turned their collective eyes Tuesday night to Rep. Peter Welch, D-Vt., with hopes of securing an $11 million federal budget earmark to pay for the repairs for the closed Vilas Bridge.
The Rockingham Select Board and the Bellows Falls Village Board of Trustees, meeting in joint session, each approved separate resolutions to Welch, formally requesting the earmark, or âcommunity projectâ as they are being called. The deadline for such requests is in early April.
The town and village are hoping that the renewed federal funding program, and the emphasis by the new Biden administration on repairing the nationâs infrastructure, means that there will finally be some action on the bridge, which was closed by the state of New Hampshire 12 years ago because of the bridgeâs deteriorating condition.
