The shooting took place around 9:50 p.m., Monday, May 31, in Rockland County.
A Spring Valley Police officer was on patrol on Crispus Attucks Road and heard multiple gunshots in the area, Detective Matthew Galli said.
Responding officers found a male lying in the roadway on Rose Avenue where he was pronounced dead, Galli said.
The teen suffered from multiple gunshot wounds.
Police from numerous agencies were called in to help due to a large crowd in the area at the time of the shooting, he added.

After a rise in recent suspicious house fires in Rockland County a reward of up to $5,000 is being offered that leads to the arrest of the person or people responsible.
The fires have taken place in Suffern between Nov. 26, 2020, and April 1, said the Rockland County Sheriff s Office.
In an effort to catch the person responsible, the ATF, the Suffern Police Department, and the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office are offering the reward.

A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for help finding whoever is responsible for a series of fires in Suffern this winter.
The money is available for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever is behind house fires that occurred in the village between Nov. 26, 2020 and April 1, 2021, the ATF said in a statement on Wednesday.
The reward is a team effort involving the ATF, Suffern police and Rockland County Sheriff s Office.
Police had previously said that suspicious fires took place in the Boulevard area of the village in recent months. Those fires appeared to have started late at night or early in the morning, police said.
Lloyd, a member of Columbian Fire Engine Co. No. 1, on West Street in Spring Valley, went missing in the flames. Fellow firefighters searched for him for hours Tuesday before his body was found early Wednesday.
The fire could be seen from the New York State Thruway and drew crews from nearly every one of the county’s 26 all-volunteer fire departments, and from New Jersey.
Rockland County Fire Coordinator Chris Kear said 20 residents were hospitalized, a figure that was later corrected to fewer than a dozen. Two firefighters were taken to Westchester Medical Center: One was released; the other was admitted for smoke-inhalation symptoms. A resident later died at another area hospital.
