No one injured after apartment fire in Rockland on Saturday

Apartment fire in Rockland contained Saturday, no one injured Officials say a tenant noticed fire in the apartment, and closed the door to the room where the fire was which helped prevent it from spreading. The call came in a little after 2:00 p.m. Officials reported smoke from a second floor window, and stretched a hose to start working on the fire.  Officials say all of the occupants of the apartment were out and accounted for. No one was injured.

UPDATE: Cause of Birch Street house fire determined

Sarah Thompson (Photo by Sarah Thompson) ROCKLAND A Rockland resident received treatment for burns to her hands and feet Friday morning, May 14, after a passerby noticed smoke and flames coming from the second story of a Birch Street home. Minutes later, Rockland police arrived to find a single woman on the front lawn and smoke in the building. A total of 30 firefighters from Rockland, Rockport, and Camden answered the 5:41 a.m. call from Knox Regional Communications Center, with the first Rockland units arriving within 5 minutes to confirm the presence of heavy smoke and flames bursting from the second-floor windows. With only the house itself on fire – no other structures or vehicles in harms’ way – firefighters outside of the structure immediately sprayed water inward to prevent the spread of flame to the outside. They then deployed an attach line, made entry into the building, extinguished the flames, and searched the rest of the building to check for any other occupa

Updated April 29 Police locate body in Owls Head pond The body was found in an area where police had been searching for Tyler Gricus, 33, who last seen on the boat he was living on in Rockland. By Stephen BettsThe Courier-Gazette Share OWLS HEAD Rockland detectives and officers with the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit located a body in a pond in a field in Owls Head on Thursday. The pond is several hundred yards from Route 73 across from the entrance to the Owls Head Transportation Museum. Police found the body around 3 p.m. A Rockland police cruiser pulled off Route 73 in Owls Head near a field where a body was found in a pond on Thursday.
