CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Clarksville City Council, with seven newly sworn-in members, got straight to work on several matters Thursday night, and not without some contentiousness during and after the meeting over a zoning application, a vote to purchase the Roxy Regional Theatre and diversity on committees.
Mayor Joe Pitts chalked it up to nerves.
“I don’t think it was necessarily tense, just nervous,” Pitts said. “First time, cameras on. It’s an official meeting, and they have to vote and want to ask good questions. I thought the discussion and the debate was really good.”
Final Roxy vote postponed
This week’s Movie Screenings at the Roxy Regional Theatre canceled due to Executive Order 70.n

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Clarksville’s City Council approved the purchase of the Roxy Regional Theatre by the city for $810,000 at a special session held Thursday evening, Dec. 17.
In this first reading, the Council voted 10 yes’s to 0 no’s on the purchase. Councilmen Jeff Henley and Gary Norris abstained from voting, Norris being a non-voting member of the Roxy Board. Councilman Tim Chandler was absent from the session.
“This was the natural next step in our view toward getting a new building on the corner of Franklin and First to give the Roxy a world-class theatre, and also to give the community a world-class event space,” said Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts.
