Exciting $1 35m drive-through coffee shop approved

Premium Content Subscriber only Cocobrew Express, Rockhampton s first architecturally designed drive-through coffee shop, has been approved to be built on a main highway corner site. The $1.35m development will be located on the corner of George and Albert St, across from Browne Park. It is a project of well-known Rockhampton developer John Kele of Kele Property Group. The leasees of Cocobrew, which KPG developed in 2019, will operate the site. The site, 40-44 Albert St, currently has three dilapidated houses which will be removed for the development. Mount Morgan water restrictions upgraded to level six

The report also states council are looking at opportunities to secure the township’s water supply security. Opportunities include new water storages constructed, pipelines to augment supply to Mount Morgan, making safe use of the abundant water supply in the mine pit and the potential for a pumped hydro-electric scheme. Consultation with the Mount Morgan community on these options is expected to commence within the next couple of months. The Mount Morgan community has been congratulated on their continued waterwise behaviour with average annual residential water usage per property in Mount Morgan almost 50 per cent lower than that in Rockhampton in recent years.

Rocky council will still fight for boundary review

Rockhampton Regional Council has confirmed that its position on acquiring the northern suburbs of Glenlee, Glendale and Rockyview remains unchanged. The Local Government Change Commissioner wrote to the council last month for an update on its position on the review, given there is a new mayor. New mayor Tony Williams remains of the same view that the northern suburbs, currently part of Livingstone Shire, should be amalgamated into Rockhampton Regional Council’s boundaries. “As some time have passed since the referral was received, I wanted to take this opportunity to confirm the official position of the newly formed Rockhampton Regional Council regarding the proposed change. I have also contacted the Livingstone Shire Council to seek their views regarding the proposed boundary change,” the Change Commissioner wrote in the letter.

Central Queensland Aboriginal Corporation for Cultural Activities was successful in gaining Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW) funding to offer the traineeships commencing Monday, April 19, 2021. Project Objectives are: To provide opportunities for training and future employment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members and for non Indigenous applicants who are genuinely interested in knowing more about traditional uses of native plants and land conservation.

25,000 litres of drinking water trucked to Mount Morgan
