A âvulnerableâ and âeasily ledâ man was convicted in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Wednesday for using counterfeit currency.
The court heard that Jeremy Wade Muir, 34, used a counterfeit $50 note at the Puma Service Station on Edward Street.
On November 19, 2020, Muir bought cigarettes with the fake money, which upon inspection had Chinese characters written on its hologram window.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Peter Rumford said that on December 5, Muir attended Rockhampton Police Station and said that another man gave him the counterfeit note.
Muir told police he gave that man the cigarettes and change received during the transaction, and only afterwards was informed the cash was illegitimate.

Nearly 800 offences were committed in Rockhampton in the past month.
Queensland Police Service data showed that of 773 offences committed from January 10 to February 10 this year, the vast majority – about 650 – occurred in the Rockhampton CBD or just north of the Fitzroy River.
Berserker contained the largest clusters of crimes, totalling more than 300 offences compared to the CBD’s 221.
Most of the region’s offences (148) fell into QPS’ other theft category, which excludes unlawful entries; drug offences (140) and good order offences (100) followed closely.
Additionally, there were 71 assaults, 65 unlawful entries, and 66 instances of other property damage. Crimes committed in the Rockhampton local government area from January 10 to February 10, sorted by category.

As 2020 comes to an end most people would struggle to have a positive to say about this year.
Here in the Rockhampton region we have had to deal with COVID, drought and then the water shortage in Mount Morgan and I could go on.
But there is a bright light in 2020 and that has been in our garden.
Throughout 2020 our plants seem to have looked lusher, flowers better, encountered less insects and grown faster.
Or am I looking at this year through rose coloured glasses?
