A painter was killed in a drunken brawl in K.K. Nagar on Saturday. The two persons involved in the murder were arrested on Sunday.
A police official of the K.K. Nagar station said N. Kasiviswanathan was engaged in painting jobs. The 30-year-old painter, after having consumed liquor, was sleeping in an autorickshaw when two persons in an inebriated condition hit him with with a spanner and killed him. The two accused are M. Sundar and V. Paramaguru, and were later arrested by the police based on an enquiry and the inspection of CCTV cameras.

Focus is on triaging patients and increasing the number of beds
With the active caseload surging past 25,000 in Chennai on Sunday, it is a tightrope walk for government hospitals in the city. Hospitals are focusing on triaging patients and are taking up work to increase the bed strength.
In all, the five major government hospitals in Chennai have 4,368 beds for patients with COVID-19. As on April 18, 3,002 beds were occupied, with the Government Corona Hospital at Guindy running to full capacity. A number of patients are waiting for admission depending on discharges.

9,344 test positive and 39 die; State tests over 1 lakh samples; 5 districts account for over 50% of cases The number of persons testing positive for COVID-19 a day breached the 9,000-mark in Tamil Nadu on Saturday. A total of 9,344 persons tested positive and 39 persons died.
The State has tested over one lakh samples in the last 24 hours, while the total number of persons discharged so far crossed nine lakh.
Chennai, along with Chengalpattu, Coimbatore, Tiruvallur and Tiruchi districts, accounted for a little over 50% of the fresh cases. With 2,884 new cases, Chennai’s overall tally rose to 2,80,184. Chengalpattu recorded 807 cases, followed by Coimbatore with 652 cases. Tiruvallur and Tiruchi recorded 389 and 323 cases respectively.
