Tamil Nadu reports 1,035 cases and 12 deaths; 1,120 persons discharged; 296 fresh cases in Chennai
As fresh COVID-19 infections dipped further to 1,035 in Tamil Nadu on Thursday, Chennai’s daily count dropped below 300 and Coimbatore registered less than 100 cases after several months.
A total of 296 persons tested positive in Chennai, while Coimbatore reported 98 cases. There were 64 cases each in Chengalpattu and Salem, and 54 in Tiruvallur. A total of 44 persons tested positive for the infection in Tiruppur. Perambalur recorded no fresh cases, while Ariyalur reported one case.

CHENNAI: A 47-year-old highways employee recovered from COVID-19 after spending 82 days at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital and was discharged on Monday.
RGGGH dean Dr E Theranirajan said the patient had 80 percent lung involvement when he was admitted to the hospital in September.
Prior to his admission to RGGGH, the patient, who hails from Ariyalur, was taking treatment in various private hospitals.
“Despite that, his condition did not get better, so he was finally transferred to RGGGH,” said the dean.
He said that the patient required high-flow nasal oxygen immediately during arrival and a battery of eight doctors per shift was deployed to monitor his condition.
He was admitted to the RGGGH with 90% lung involvement
After undergoing treatment for 82 days, a 47-year-old man, who had 90% lung involvement due to COVID-19, was discharged from the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) on Monday.
The patient, Rathnam, tested positive and underwent treatment in private hospitals in Ariyalur, Tiruchi and Chennai from August 31 to September 30. He continued to suffer from breathlessness and was admitted to the RGGGH on September 30 in critical condition with 90% lung involvement, according to a press release.
The patient required oxygen support and was administered life-saving drugs. He was also put on respiratory support. He was started on continuous positive airway pressure ventilation and then moved to high flow nasal cannula followed by nasal oxygen. He was on room air for five days.

Any college that violates public health norms will face action, warns Vijayabaskar
Collectors have been instructed to monitor colleges and hostels across the State, in the wake of a COVID-19 cluster at IIT-Madras, Health Minister C. Vijayabaskar said.
“The Health Secretary conducted inspections at IIT-M and Anna University. In Chennai, of the 8,000 samples lifted from colleges and hostels, the results of 210 have returned positive so far. Today, just one student tested positive. The situation has been brought under control. Any college that violates public health norms will face action,” he told reporters shortly after launching a few facilities at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH).

CHENNAI: The doctors at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) saved a 40-year-old woman who had multiple organ injuries after she fell from first floor of a building. RGGGH Dean Dr E Theranirajan said, the patient, a construction worker from Vellore, had about 10 injuries in her body at the time of admission.
“She was unconscious when she was first taken to the Chrompet GH, and then she was shifted to Chengalpattu GH, where she continued to remain unconscious,” he told Express. Doctors said the patient only had three grams of haemoglobin. After she was moved to RGGGH, eight specialty doctors treated her. “Liver, vascular surgeon, anesthetist, general surgeon, urologist, kidney specialist, were among other doctors, who were involved in the treatment,” said Theranirajan.
