Shameful that Rims has no CT scan: J khand HC | Ranchi News

Ranchi: The Jharkhand high court on Thursday said it is “shameful” for the premier state-run healthcare institute, Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims), not to have one CT scan machine of its own. Hearing a suo moto public interest litigation (PIL), a division bench of Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan and Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad used the term to describe the lackadaisical approach of Rims in procuring the machine. The bench ordered the director of the autonomous healthcare institute to submit an application on Thursday itself to the government for the purchase of a CT scan machine. The HC has listed the matter for hearing again on Friday.

Notably, ventilators are operated under the supervision of doctor who have specialisation in anaesthesia. As per the data provided by the district health authorities, the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) has 18 ventilators and the central hospital of Central Coalfields Limited has a lone ventilator. The sadar hospital in Ranchi has a total of 60 ventilators, but none of them has been used since the second wave of infections began in the state. Till Monday morning, Ranchi had 3,015 of 5,244 active cases in the state.

Ranchi: Amid the surge in new Covid-19 cases in the state capital and across Jharkhand, the health department on Sunday asked the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) management to prepare 250 Covid-designated beds by Wednesday while the city airport has appealed to the passengers to reach the airport three hours before their flight departures to avoid rushes and follow safety protocols. On Sunday, health secretary Kamal Kishore Soan chaired a meeting attended by Rims director Kameshwar Prasad, the institute’s critical care head Dr Pradeep Bhattacharya and other senior officials of the state health mission. During the meeting, Soan asked the Rims authorities to get the beds ready.
