On Day 1, colleges adopt mix of online and offline classes | Ranchi News

Ranchi: The Jharkhand government has given its nod to start physical classes for colleges from Thursday but on Day 1, many constituent and affiliated colleges of the University of Ranchi have adopted both offline and online classes to avoid crowding on campus and ensure Covid-19 safety rules. Earlier, the registrar of the university had issued a notification to all constituent and affiliated colleges to open their campus from March 1 after carrying out cleaning and sanitization work for two days. The colleges have also been directed to follow the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines during the classes. However, the Ram Lakhan Singh College here has started offline classes and continued with the live streaming of the classes for those who want to attend them online.

Jharkhand residents urged to ditch cars for bicycles in bid to reduce pollution

Patna: The government in Jharkhand state, alarmed at the rising pollution level posing serious health hazards, has planned a No cars on Saturday initiative where citizens will only be allowed to ride bicycles on the busy city streets during weekends. The government said the eco-friendly move will not only protect the environment but also promote healthier lifestyle among residents. Scheduled to be launched on March 13, the idea will be implemented in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand state. The total population of Ranchi is 1.46 million. A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of officials held under the chairmanship of Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) commissioner Mukesh Kumar on Thursday.

Jharkhand HC takes cognizance of woman s death at MGM | Ranchi News

Representative image RANCHI: The Jharkhand high court on Thursday took suo motu cognizance of the death of a woman at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical Hospital in Jamshedpur earlier this week after an email was sent to Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan by a Ranchi-based advocate Anup Agarwal. The complaint in his mail said the woman, who sustained burn injuries, was ill-treated in the hospital, resulting in her death. Agarwal in his email mentioned that the woman was set on fire by her husband on February 14 in Chakradharpur. On the same day, she was dropped at the hospital by a Good Samaritan with 91% burns. However, the hospital did not attend her for two days until a local media highlighted her plight. She ultimately succumbed to her injuries. The court treated the letter sent on email as a PIL and ordered the Jharkhand Legal Services Authority secretary to inquire into the matter and submit a report within one week.
