Muslim Youth United reaches out to 550 households in Lunzu through food distribution

Muslim Youth United (MYU) on Sunday distributed food packs to 550 households in Lunzu, Blantyre to help the families break their days of fasting as they observe the Holy month of Ramadhan. This is an annual event the a philanthropy arm of Muslims in Malawi carries out randomly across the country in a spirit of camaraderie. Speaking to the media during the distribution at Lunzu Community Hall, MYU Founder, Dr. Hussein Twabi a research fellow at the College of Medicine said they do this in the spirit of sharing the little they contribute amongst each other as well as from many of their donors.

Minister Kaliati commissions ICT lab at Mpemba Reformatory Centre provided by Blantyre Round Table No 20

Minister of Gender and Community Services, Patricia Kaliati on Saturday commissioned the information and communication technology classroom that has been provided by Blantyre Round Table No. 20 at Mpemba Reformatory Centre along Chikwawa Road in Blantyre. Kaliati applauded the charitable organisation of these young men of under 40 years of age for their long-standing partnership with this reformatory centre that has existed since 1962. She took cognizance that the ICT facilities donated will undoubtedly enrich the teaching and learning scope of the institution, that reforms minors who had been in conflict with the law. “This is an enriched learning tool for these kids and is set to give them an opportunity to connect with the rest of the world that in turn will assist them to reform far much better,” she said.

Man kills himself over daughter s birthday party earnings

A 24-year-old man has committed suicide in Blantyre District after being disappointed with a meagre amount of money realised from the birthday party of his daughter which was held in Thyolo. Limbe Police Station, Public Relations Officer (PRO), Patrick Mussa, told Malawi News Agency (MANA) on Wednesday that the deceased, Alick Nkonyombola, hanged himself during the morning of Tuesday, April 20 in Limbe Market. Man kills himself “It is believed that on April 17, Nkonyombola organised a party for his daughter at his home village in Thyolo. “The patronage was poor due to weather as there were showers, as a result he did not realise as much money as he expected. He even failed to pay the master of ceremony, the DJ and the dancing queens,” said Mussa.

Veteran journalist Limbani Moya no more

Veteran journalist Limbani Moya, who was working at Malawi Communication Regulatory Authority (MACRA) as Broadcasting Monitoring Officer, has died at Mwaiwathu Hospital in Blantyre of CoVID-19 complications. MACRA’s Communications Manager Clara Ngwira confirmed of the death and said the late Moya’s remains is expected to be taken from Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital for his residence at Namiyango in Bangwe Township tomorrow (Friday) and thereafter his burial at HHI Cemetery in Blantyre. Limbani Moya no more Close family sources say sadly, he has died a day after returning from India where he had a successful kidney transplant. He was discharged from the Indian hospital on Tuesday, March 20 and arrived back home in Malawi on Wednesday, April 12.
