Covid-19 Is Still Raging in Much of the World as Global Cases Hit Record Highs

Covid-19 Is Still Raging in Much of the World as Global Cases Hit Record Highs © Debarchan Chatterjee/Zuma Press While hopes are rising that a rapid rollout of Covid-19 vaccines is helping to tame the pandemic in the U.S., in much of the world the virus is still surging. Covid-19 case rates across the globe are at their highest levels since the start of the pandemic, illustrating the continuing race between vaccinations and the virus and the stiff challenge presented by new variants that are emerging and spreading quickly around the world. As of Wednesday, nearly 5.6 million new confirmed cases were reported over the previous week, more than double the level of mid-February, and higher than the previous peak of late December, according to Our World in Data, a project based at Oxford University.

Researchers develop a method of fabrication for biodegradable polymer microcapsules

Researchers develop a method of fabrication for biodegradable polymer microcapsules An international team led by a Skoltech researcher has developed a method of fabrication for biodegradable polymer microcapsules, made more efficient by turning to an unusual source of inspiration - traditional Russian dumpling, or pelmeni, making. The two papers were published in Materials and Design and ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces. Micro-sized capsules, which can be tailored to a variety of purposes, have proven very useful in targeted delivery of drugs and other bioactive compounds. To ensure optimal functioning, these have to be designed and manufactured with precision and in particular shapes, as non-spherical capsules turned out to be more efficient and effective than spherical ones.

Lecturer who had fairy lights mattress tried to meet girl, 12, in Grays

A UNIVERSITY lecturer tried to meet a “12-year-old girl” for sex – and had a mattress decorated with fairy lights in his lounge. Bhusan Chettri has been jailed for more than three years after he was caught out by undercover police officers in Grays. The 36-year-old of Merchant Street, London, is originally from India but was working as a data analytics lecturer at Queen Mary University of London. In November last year, he messaged a profile called “Ella” on the online chat room site “321chat”, who described herself as a 12-year-old girl. Chettri posed as a 15-year-old boy and claimed that he liked younger girls and sent various sexualised messages to the profile, encouraging her to perform sex acts on herself to “practice” for when they met up in person.

On January 10 that year, the 2,200-tonne vessel dropped the Spanish flag in favour of the Seychelles flag. Seychelles is a small archipelagic nation in the Indian Ocean.
