the old pirate lingo: parler | Your Democracy

the old pirate lingo: parler. Parler is fast becoming a conservative echo-chamber but big name climate deniers don t seem to be abandoning mainstream social media for the fringe platform at least not yet. An analysis by DeSmog to determine how many profiles featured in our comprehensive climate database have accounts on Parler suggests that many prominent science deniers aren’t currently active on the alternative social platform. Our research suggests there is only a limited overlap between leading climate science deniers and Parler use, with just 11 percent of the 611 unique U.S. science denial profiles and 15 percent of the 149 UK profiles included in DeSmog’s database appearing to have accounts on Parler. A closer examination of the top 10 most prominent names from the U.S database that appear active on the new platform including outgoing President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence  reveals around half of them are unverified, or uncredible acc

£6 7m awarded to find new ways to improve prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases

£6.7m awarded to find new ways to improve prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases Barts Life Sciences - a partnership between Barts Health NHS Trust and Queen Mary University of London - has been awarded £6.7m by Barts Charity to research new ways to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a variety of diseases. The diseases that will be studied include COVID-19, cancer, heart disease and diabetes, which affect many in the east London population. Barts Health is one of the largest NHS Trusts in the UK, caring for around 2.5 million patients in one of the most diverse and disadvantaged areas of the UK. This new multi-million-pound award will enable Barts Life Sciences to make better use of the information collected during the course of a person s NHS care - a currently untapped and underused source of data - which will be used for the benefit of patients and the wider population.

£6 7m to harness the power of NHS patient data and develop targeted care

E-Mail Barts Life Sciences is harnessing the untapped resource of patient data to discover new ways of improving patient care. Specific health data collected from Barts Health NHS Trust patients over the course of their care will be securely analysed as part of new research that will directly benefit the 2.5 million patients the Trust cares for, as well as patients across the UK and beyond. The £6.7m investment by Barts Charity marks a significant commitment to deliver advanced disease prevention and treatment to a population with some of the highest rates of illness and disadvantage in the UK, and to support east London s growing life and health data sciences sector.

Wood burners triple harmful indoor air pollution, study finds

The study, published in the journal Atmosphere, analysed data collected every few minutes from pollution monitors in people’s homes and in total assessed 260 uses of wood burners. The results showed the burners were usually lit for about four hours at a time, and during this period the level of harmful particles in homes was three times higher than when stoves were not being used. During those four hours, average particle levels rose to between 27 and 195 micrograms per cubic metre of air. The World Health Organization limit is 25μg/m3 over 24 hours. “Epidemiologists are increasingly recognising that exposure to high intensities of [small particles] over much shorter periods of time – hours rather than days – is linked to a range of health issues,” the researchers wrote.
