QUEEN’S University Belfast has announced a £2.5 million investment in the north’s screen industry.
The university said the new MediaLab will seek to marry the existing strengths of Irish film, drama and storytelling with Queen’s significant expertise in computer science and engineering.
It will produce a facility focused on virtual production in a bid to drive research and development (R&D) for the film industry here, while training the local workforce.
It follows ongoing advances in computer game engines, scanning technologies and 3D rendering, which have transferred into film, animation, games and new virtual reality technologies.
