A man who worked as a livery driver in 1996 has been charged with raping a passenger 25 years ago, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced Thursday.
Danny Stewart, 58 and of Manhattan, was indicted by a grand jury and arraigned in Queens Supreme Court on a charge of rape in the first degree for the 1996 rape of a female passenger.
Stewart – a livery driver at the time – allegedly picked up the victim from her workplace in Jamaica and sexually assaulted her in his car after displaying what appeared to be a gun.

NEW YORK - A Long Island woman accused of the hit-and-run death of a veteran NYPD officer was indicted on multiple charges on Tuesday.
Jessica Beauvais, 32, of Hempstead, faces 13 counts including manslaughter, homicide, leaving the scene of an accident, fleeing from police, drunk driving, and other charges.
Police say that Beauvais admitted to drinking and smoking marijuana before plowing into Officer Anastasios Tsakos, who was directing traffic at a fatal car crash on the Long Island Expressway.

In a statement, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said, This is a heartbreaking case that has left the police officer’s parents, his widow and their two young children and our entire community mourning his loss.

A Queens Village man has been charged with the brutal murder of his mother Saturday morning, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced Sunday.
Pushkar Sharma, 28, was arraigned Sunday on a complaint charging him with two counts of murder in the second degree and sexual abuse in the first degree. A psychiatric exam was ordered and he was remanded to Department of Corrections’ custody, according to court records. Sharma’s next court appearance is scheduled for May 24.
