Bessie Coleman Made History 100 Years Ago Today Bessie Coleman Made History 100 Years Ago Today One hundred years ago on June 15, 1921, Bessie Coleman became the first African American woman and the first woman of Native American descent to earn a pilot’s license. The license was issued by the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI), the aviation licensing body of Europe Bessie moved to France to learn to fly because the skies weren’t open to her as a Black woman in the United States. Bessie Coleman, byname of Elizabeth Coleman, (born January 26, 1892, Atlanta, Texas, U.S. died April 30, 1926, Jacksonville, Florida), American aviator and a star of early aviation exhibitions and air shows. One of 13 children, Coleman grew up in Waxahatchie, Texas, where her mathematical aptitude freed her from working in the cotton fields. Dronecloud and Frequentis partner to begin drone trials Primary tabs 8th June 2021 The consortium is set to test the devices alongside air traffic control systems to help improve communications between drone operators and airside authorities   Drone flight management software provider, Dronecloud, has been chosen by Austrian technology company, Frequentis to collaborate on the development of open standard integrations which are set to help unlock Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drone flights within the UK.   The two companies plan to work together, alongside others within the consortium, to deploy the tech firm’s unmanned traffic management solution – MosaiX UTM.   Field trials initiated by Project Rise – the UK conglomerate that tests the reliability and safety of unmanned aircraft – are set to take place at Cranfield Airport in Bedfordshire, whereby Dronecloud will be tested in conjunction with air traffic controls (ATC).
