NPR published a story Monday headlined “Liberals Admire Justice Breyer. Now They Want Him To Retire.” The story sets out the expected deadline for a possible retirement announcement.
With Democrats holding the White House and the barest of Senate majorities, there is immense urgency among progressives for Breyer to announce his retirement when the Supreme Court term ends around the end of June. That push is amplified by interest and organizing among Democrats that’s centered on the courts and has increased as Republicans built a 6-3 conservative majority in the Supreme Court over the last four years.

Money continues to pour into Seattle races for mayor and city council. For the candidates looking to replace outgoing at-large Councilmember Lorena Gonzalez, it appears to be a three-way race in the early stages.
Leading the pack in money received from individual contributions is Fremont Brewery founder Sara Nelson, having brought in nearly $90,000 as of Tuesday, April 6, spread out across 466 donors.
Prominent donors to Nelson’s campaign include current mayoral candidate Lance Randall, Communications Director for the King County Executive’s office Alex Fryer, former Seattle Councilmember Heidi Wills, and 2019 council candidates Brendan Kolding and Logan Bowers.

The 2020 election is over. Joe Biden is president, but down ballot, the Democratic Party didn’t do so hot. The party’s standing in the House shrunk considerably. The Democrats’ House losses were shocking; they were projected to gain 10 or so seats not lose them. There’s very little wiggle room for error. In the Senate, Democrats only have 50 seats. They have the majority because Vice President Kamala Harris is the tiebreaker, but this is far from the Obama wave that occurred in 2008. Democrats had 60 seats in the Senate. Below those slate of races, the Democratic project of overturning key state legislatures also failed miserably. Overall, besides Biden, Democrats got stuffed.
