Ernie Teddy Serrano of Jurupa Valley died on Dec. 15 after a struggle with patrol deputies at a store on Crestmore Road.
Authorities say Serrano tried to grab a security guard s gun during the incident at a grocery store. They allege he fought with the guard and then with deputies who were trying to detain him, but Serrano refused to comply with the deputies commands.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco held a news briefing late Monday afternoon to discuss a suspect s death following the use of force on the man by his deputies at a Jurupa Valley Stater Bros. market.
Store video surveillance and body-camera footage of the incident were provided during the nearly one-hour briefing that showed 33-year-old Ernie Serrano struggle with five male deputies before he was restrained by force and subsequently stopped breathing on the aisle 1 checkout stand of the 5571 Mission Boulevard store location.
Bianco opened the news briefing with condolences to Serrano s family, and called the December 15 death a sad and tragic event.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, Calif. After a nearly yearlong investigation, a Moreno Valley man and woman were arrested Thursday on suspicion of torturing a 4-year-old child who suffered brain injuries, officials said.
Michael Joe Macliz Sr., 45, and Christina Michael Daniela Rivera, 47, were taken into custody around 6:30 p.m. on $1 million arrest warrants, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.
The Sheriff’s Department had been investigating the pair since January this year, when the 4-year-old child was admitted to Loma Linda Medical Center with life-threatening head, face and brain injuries.

SAN JACINTO, CA A man with a domestic violence restraining order against him was arrested this week in San Jacinto after violating the order and attempting to flee from deputies, the Riverside County Sheriff s Department reported.
Chance Morris, 33, was taken into custody around 4:35 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Garrett Way and Arroyo Viejo Drive after he led a chase that lasted about three hours.
Deputies with the San Jacinto station received a call about Morris around 1:30 p.m. that day after he showed up at a home in the 1800 block of Browning Court, despite an active domestic violence court order barring him from being at the residence, according to the sheriff s department.
