Sometime soon, the body of an unknown man who died in mysterious circumstances on an Adelaide beach more than 72 years ago will be exhumed and DNA extracted from his remains.
Last February, just before schools shut down for the year due to COVID-19, the state Board of Education unanimously approved the new standards, and schools have begun training teachers on how to adjust their instruction.
There will be “very major shifts on what we are expecting our teachers to do with our students,” Chancellor of Education Jacob Oliva said in 2020, calling it a completely “different framework on how we are going to support our classrooms.”
While some school districts are introducing B.E.S.T. across all grades next year, Sarasota and Manatee are following the state’s rollout schedule of limiting the new standards to kindergarten through second grade English language arts next year before introducing them to all grades in 2022-23.

This year, volunteers turned out and worked hard to help Grounds Manager Deb King with several projects around the property. The staff and patrons are very appreciative to everyone who turned out! According to staff, there has definitely been an uptick in travelers at the museum. Staff still requests that people book tours ahead whenever possible, and they strongly recommend visitors wear masks inside the buildings.
