With city staffing levels remaining too low to re-open Holidays on the River, ice skating will remain on hold until at least Jan. 4, Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox said on Tuesday.
According to the latest data from City Hall, staffing levels within the city’s Infrastructure and Public Services department, which manages Holidays on the River, remain at just above 66.3% because of absences related to COVID-19 and other causes.
“We just do not have the personnel to dedicate to Holidays on the River” and maintain essential city functions, the mayor said during his weekly coronavirus update to the City Council.
This means that the shutdown of Holidays on the River imposed by Maddox on Dec. 3 – just less than two weeks after its Nov. 23 opening – will remain for at least another two weeks.
