A rainbow crosswalk being painted on a downtown street offers not just a splash of colour but a sign of support for the local LGBTQ+ community.
At an operations and administration committee meeting on Tuesday, city councillors unanimously approved installing the crosswalk in the core. City staff and Brantford Pride will work together to decide on the exact location.

Coun. Joshua Wall, who moved the resolution to create the crosswalk, said it was a collaborative effort of Brantford Pride, The Bridge Brant and local 2SLGBTQ+ community members.

Brantford residents will be paying 2.77 per cent more than last year on their 2021 tax bill.
That means about $90.88 for the average residential taxpayer with a home that has an assessed value of $284,000. The average multi-residential tax increase is 2.5 per cent; the average commercial tax increase is 0.59 per cent; and the average industrial tax increase is 1.59 per cent.

At the beginning of the city’s operating budget process in February, the tax increase starting point was 3.2 per cent. That was pared down over several meetings, with direction from city councillors, recommendations from city staff and a review of the 7,500 lines in the budget.
