PARIS French President Emmanuel Macron acknowledged on Thursday that his planned pension reforms cannot go ahead as planned in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis, retreating on one of the signature measures he promised when he came to office.
Macron’s revamp of France’s costly pension system, central to his drive for a more flexible and competitive labor market, infuriated trade unions, prompted weeks of transport strikes and was later shelved when the pandemic hit the economy.

PARIS, April 29 (Reuters) - As the bicentenary of Napoleon Bonaparte s death draws closer, an exhibition at Les Invalides in Paris sheds light on his death in exile and his efforts to save his legacy as military genius and visionary leader.
Banished by the British to the windswept, rat-infested island of Saint Helena in the south Atlantic, Napoleon, surrounded by a coterie of close confidantes, wrote his memoir, according historian Lea Charliquart, who co-curated the exhibition, called Napoleon is no more . PARIS, April 10 (Reuters) - More than 110 people dining at a clandestine restaurant were fined late on Friday for violating a COVID-19 lockdown, Paris police said, days after the government denied allegations that ministers had attended similar underground soirees.

Restaurants, bars and cafes have been closed for sit-down dining for months, and public frustration is growing amid a third national lockdown and another wave of coronavirus infections. France, other European countries withdraw from business forum over execution

PARIS (Reuters) -France said on Sunday its ambassador to Iran would not participate in an online business forum in Tehran this week, in a growing row between Iran and European nations over the execution of Iranian dissident journalist Ruhollah Zam.
Other envoys from Germany, Austria and Italy were also cancelling their involvement in the Dec. 14 event, the French foreign ministry said on Twitter. At the foot of its tweet, the ministry ran the hashtag #nobusinessasusual.
