Weekly âWalk-up Wednesdayâ vaccination event planned for Richmondâs southside Walk-up Wednesdays to get more people vaccinated By Karina Bolster | May 3, 2021 at 6:29 AM EDT - Updated May 4 at 7:22 PM
RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - The Richmond City Health District (RCHD) is offering COVID-19 shots to anyone 18 years and older during its weekly âWalk-up Wednesdaysâ vaccination event.
On Wednesday, the city will hold its first walk-up event at George Wythe High School on Richmondâs southside from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; no appointment is needed.
Johnson & Johnson Walk-up Vaccination Event
Public Health Nurse Amy Snearer hopes to give out 400 COVID-19 vaccines during the five-hour time frame. However, she said they are in desperate need of one age group to make the effort to come out to these events.

Health officials have transformed George Wythe High School in south Richmond into a walk-up COVID-19 vaccination clinic.
The vaccination site opened Wednesday morning, ready to dispense up to 400 doses of the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
The opening of the George Wythe walk-up clinic comes after the Richmond City Health District shuttered an appointment-only site at the Arthur Ashe Center last Friday. Health officials say they are moving toward smaller community hubs instead, like the vaccination site recently opened in Richmond’s West End at The Islamic Center of Henrico.
Federal officials said Tuesday they are investigating unusual clots in six women. More than 6.8 million doses of the J&J vaccine have been administered in the U.S., the vast majority with no or mild side effects. Some Local Health Districts Impacted More Than Others
The impact of the pause on local health districts varies. The Richmond City Health District said Tuesday that four upcoming Johnson & Johnson vaccination events are being changed to Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. Fewer than 750 people were scheduled for those events.
The Mount Rogers Health District had planned to administer 1,000 J&J doses at a clinic at Marion High School Saturday. It now plans to administer Pfizer vaccine.
