Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott tests positive for COVID-19 Dec 16, 2020 12:38 PM EST COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– The Richland County Sheriff’s Department says Sheriff Leon Lott has tested positive for COVID-19. According to the department, Sheriff Lott was originally tested on Friday after learning that a family member tested positive. That original test came back negative. The department says Sheriff Lott was tested again on Wednesday, out of an abundance of caution, and that test came back positive. Officials say Lott has been quarantining since Wednesday, December 9 as a precaution, and he feels well while resting at home.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott has tested positive for COVID-19, according to the department. According to a release, Sheriff Lott learned of the exposure on Thursday, after the joint news conference held at the South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC). He self-quarantined after learning of the exposure. He came back negative.  According to RCSD, out of an abundance of caution, Sheriff Lott was tested again Wednesday, Dec. 16, and his results came back positive for COVID-19.  Sheriff Lott had been self-quarantining since Wednesday, Dec. 9 and is feeling well and resting at home.

Officials said they used cell phones they obtained illegally in prison to coordinate the crimes with those on the outside.
