COLUMBIA, S.C. Longtime Columbia NAACP president and local activist Frank Washington passed away over the weekend.
The 91-year-old is not only remembered for being the president of the Columbia NAACP and also the vice-president of the South Carolina NAACP but he was an educator for over 30 years and was married to his wife Vivian for over 70 years.
Washington was born on September 5, 1929 in Estill, South Carolina. His family relocated to Columbia, South Carolina when he was nine months old. He was a product of the Waverly community and Allen Benedict Court in Columbia, South Carolina.

The Columbia Rotary Club has awarded a Central Carolina Technical College dual enrollment student a $20,000 academic scholarship and a Central Carolina faculty member with a plaque for being a Teacher Who Made a Difference in the Education and Life of this student.
The Columbia Rotary Club s Scholarship Committee and club leaders honored Eliza (Gracie) Sclater and Dr. Raymond Watkins during a special ceremony at the club s lunch meeting at Seawell s Catering on Monday.
Over the last two years, Sclater completed college credit courses with Central Carolina as she moved toward her high school diploma with the South Carolina Association of Independent Home Schools (SCAIHS). Students still required to wear face coverings in R1 schools

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) – Tuesday, Richland School District One announced it will still require students wear face coverings at its schools, despite Governor Henry McMaster’s latest executive order which gave parents the power to opt their children out of wearing masks in public schools.
Superintendent Craig Witherspoon said the district’s face covering policy and related requirements will remain in place, including the wearing of face coverings by students and staff in our schools and administrative buildings and on our school buses as the district awaits guidance and additional information from the S.C. Department of Education and the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control.
