Auburn s OBAP connects aviation students to industry pros, community | News

An Auburn University student organization dedicated to the advancement of minorities in aviation and aerospace careers is showing the community that aviation students aren’t just good at flying planes. They’re also good people.  For the last two years, the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals, or OBAP, has been working hard to develop relationships with aviation and aerospace professionals, and with community organizations in need of help. “I’m so proud of the organization’s growth,” OBAP President Asia Anchrum said. “We have definitely been a staple in the community by providing a presence for minorities from the aviation industry.”

North Side shooting death brings 25-year prison sentence

The shooting death of a 19-year-old man in 2019 that was spurred by a simmering conflict led to a 25-year prison sentence Thursday for the man who shot him. Dane County Circuit Judge Josann Reynolds said Larence G. Thomas, 38, should have had the maturity to step back from the conflict between Malik Moss and members of Thomas’ family, not impulsively shoot Moss several times in September 2019 in a parking lot outside the Ridgecrest Apartments on Madison’s North Side “You were the adult,” Reynolds said. “You had the ability to make so many different choices.” Thomas DANE COUNTY SHERIFF S OFFICE Thomas, who was originally charged with first-degree intentional homicide, pleaded guilty in October to second-degree intentional homicide as part of a plea agreement, avoiding a potential life sentence had he been convicted of the more serious charge.

2 Men Killed in Related Shootings in Dallas on Sunday: Police

Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to the scene and transported Veloz to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. According to police, officers were also dispatched to the Ridgecrest Apartments located at 418 S. Walton Walker in regards to a shooting call at approximately 2:41 p.m. When officers arrived, they located the victim, 21-year-old Daniel Victor Barrera, Jr., laying on the ground after being shot, police said. Dallas Fire-Rescue transported the Barrera to an area hospital where he, too, was pronounced dead. According to police, the two shootings on Sunday afternoon are related. Police said during their investigation, homicide detectives determined that 17-year-old Bryan Bernal Rivas was responsible for killing Barrera.
