Blue Ghost Brewing Co. of Fletcher has announced its biggest expansion project since obtaining what is now the 1.5-acre “Firefly Field” in the spring of 2017.
The brewery has only been able to host about 100 guests at a time inside the brewery since opening its doors in March 2016, according to a news release from Blue Ghost. COVID-19 restrictions over the past year have cut this capacity in half and put brewery staff hard at work on addressing the issue of finding more covered seating.
“Once informed in the spring of last year that our beloved old oak tree had to be removed for safety reasons, we started throwing out ideas as to how we could reimagine and repurpose the space left after its removal,” said co-founder and CEO Zach Horn.
Vaccinations for Group 4 to begin next week in Henderson County
Henderson County COVID-19 vaccine providers will progress into Group 4 eligibility alongside the state on March 17, starting with vaccinations for individuals with high-risk medical conditions, experiencing homelessness or incarcerated, according to the Henderson County Department of Public Health.
Local providers have been scheduling appointments for frontline essential workers in Group 3 while continuing to prioritize previous eligible groups. As more seniors have been able to receive vaccination appointments, providers are comfortable signaling the official shift to Groups 3 and 4, says the news release from the health department.

Several neighbors and community members were against the project when it was proposed last year. An online petition, Facebook group and website were created to speak out against construction of the plant.
The county’s planning board passed an unfavorable recommendation for the rezoning last August. Jeff Shipman of SE Asphalt soon after pulled the application before it could be brought before the Henderson County Board of Commissioners. He hinted at reapplying again in the future.
