The retailer made the announcement via a Facebook post last week. “After 43 years we are going out of business because we lost our lease,” the post states. “We appreciate all our dedicated customers and employees.” The Dec. 10 post includes an advertisement for 30% off storewide, and rugs 40% off. By Wednesday, the post had nearly 200 comments and 1,000 shares. Many expressed sadness to see the store close.  The World of Clothing, at 135 Sugarloaf Road, includes 102,000 square feet of shopping space. Merchandise includes clothing for women, men, children, nurse’s uniforms, linens, home furnishings, rugs and more. Robert D. “Dit” Williams, the founder and president of The World of Clothing, Inc., passed away on May 22. He had a great love for his business and for all his employees, many of which have been with the company for decades, according to a closing notice from The World of Clothing.

Hendersonville church event linked to 75 COVID-19 cases A holiday celebration event at First Baptist Church of Hendersonville is linked to 75 cases of COVID-19, the Henderson County Department of Public Health said Thursday. The cluster stems from a church gathering over the Dec. 5 weekend. The health department is working to identify any additional close contacts of the 75 individuals, according to a news release. The Centers for Disease Control defines a close contact as being within approximately 6 feet of an infected person with COVID-19 for a cumulative 15 minutes. The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services defines clusters of COVID-19 in non-congregate living settings as a minimum of five cases with illness onsets or initial positive results within a 14-day period and plausible epidemiologic linkage between cases.

Plasma of those recovered from COVID-19 sought for treatment; Blood donations needed

The Blood Connection is asking those who have recovered from COVID-19 or tested positive for antibodies to donate plasma to aid those currently fighting the virus. Blood donations for all blood types are also sought. During the holiday season and the COVID-19 pandemic, the nonprofit community blood center is urging all eligible blood donors who are healthy and well to donate blood. The Blood Connection is the sole provider for over 80 hospitals in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia, according to a news release. The Blood Connection begins its holiday blood drive Friday, which will run until Christmas Eve. Donors will receive a $20 gift card and a long-sleeved T-shirt as a thank you, while supplies last.
