Coimbatore: Eight construction associations in the district would protest the abnormal increase in steel and cement prices on Friday by boycotting work. Around 10,000 small and medium builders and contractors and more than 50,000 construction workers would participate in the one-day strike.
Representatives of the associations said the sudden hike in prices have affected construction contractors, who are unable to complete the projects within the estimated price. They said the common people, who have begun building houses with all their savings, have also been hit by the price rise.

New Delhi: As the housing market revives from the lows hit last year, developers expect more measures in the upcoming budget to boost demand in the real estate sector.
A major demand of the developers has been to remove the ban on subvention scheme for home loans.
The National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) in its recommendations to the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman noted that the ban is not in favour of home buyers as a large proportion of them do not have the capacity to pay both EMIs on their home loans as well as house rents.

TNERC rejects developers’ plea on norms requiring earmarking of land for substations

The Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC) has rejected a plea by The Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (CREDAI), Chennai over norms that require earmarking space for the establishment of a substation, where the total area of the buildings exceed 30,000 square meters or the power load exceeds 5 Mega Volt Amp (MVA).
An amendment was made to the Tamil Nadu Electricity Distribution Code effective January 29, 2020.
CREDAI, Chennai had moved a clarificatory petition before the TNERC over the norms. Its petition sought that the amendment be made prospective, and not retrospective.
