Last week’s violence at the U.S. Capitol Building has led many banks and corporations to rethink their approach to political donations. Now, some real estate groups are following suit.
Using data compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics, an analysis by The Real Deal found that 10 major real estate-related trade groups had contributed in the 2020 election cycle to members of the so-called “sedition caucus” the 147 Republican lawmakers who objected to Electoral College results in the presidential election.

The traveling sector was one of the most affected economic segments that were struck by the pandemic. On the other hand, traveling businesses are projected to experience the tailwinds of a globally recovering economy, leaving investors with an attractive opportunity to invest. Harvest Portfolios Group Inc. (“Harvest”) assumes sound potential growth of the travel and leisure sector and issued Canada’s first travel & leisure index ETF, the Harvest Travel & Leisure Index ETF (“TRVL”), which enables Canadian investors to access this well-diversified sector. The ETF tracks the Solactive Travel & Leisure Index.
Cogent Communications Holdings (CCOI) should be some of the primary Covid-recovery beneficiaries in the sector. Each of their earnings declined in 2020, and all saw some multiple contraction. The result was stocks that badly lagged the market.
AT&T likely has the most cyclical profile of the telecom companies, given its large WarnerMedia entertainment subsidiary. Movie theater closures, canceled or delayed sports events, and cost-conscious advertisers hurt results there in 2020. Verizon has a smaller advertising-reliant segment: Verizon Media, which includes Yahoo and other brands.
“In 2021, we expect the media space to broadly recover, although it could be somewhat choppy and back-half weighted in 2021 (particularly with a still uncertain economic outlook and many movie theaters closed to the public),” wrote Luebchow. “We broadly believe that we will reach (or even eclipse) 2019 media revenues at [AT&T and Verizon] by FY2022, which should be boosted in AT&T’s case
SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Singapore Exchange s regulatory unit will tighten requirements for listed company auditors and raise standards on valuation reports, introducing a regulatory code of conduct for auditors. In a statement released on Tuesday, Singapore Exchange Regulation (SGX RegCo) Chief Executive Tan Boon Gin said the changes enhance the standards required of auditors and property valuers in their dealings with listed companies. We expect the quality of the market and investor protection to improve as a result, Tan said. The moves, effective from Feb. 12, follow market criticism faced by SGX RegCo, the city-state s frontline capital markets regulator, over its handling of accounting irregularities at some listed firms.
