Sixteen early-career voice teachers and collaborative pianists will gather for an intensive training experience at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia, from June 1-10, 2021.
The National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) has selected 16 members to take part in its 2021 Intern Program. This 10-day forum pairs experienced and recognized master teachers with talented early-career NATS members.
The 2021 class is a varied and unique group, with 12 voice teachers and four collaborative pianists.
Master teachers Theresa Brancaccio (Northwestern University), Frank Ragsdale (University of Miami), Michelle Markwart Deveaux (Independent Studio, CA), and Kari Ragan (University of Washington, Independent Studio) will work with the 12 voice teachers – both independent and academic.
Lyric Opera of Chicagoâs latest virtual concert celebrated singers and composers from Puerto Rico, Cuba, Mexico, Spain, Guatemala, Argentina and the US. Lyricâs Ryan Opera Center, which sponsored the concert, assembled an array of fine singers, most of whom are members or alums of the Ryan Center itself. The event was subtitled, âCelebrating music from the Spanish-speaking world with Ana MarÃa MartÃnez and Friends,â and MartÃnez was sparkling not only as a singer but also as host.
The concert opened with âSalida de Cecilia Valdésâ by Gonzalo Roig and AgustÃn Rodriguez, sung by MartÃnez accompanied at the piano by Craig Terry. MartÃnez, born in Puerto Rico and with a father from Cuba, used her lovely lower register with an attractive friskiness, offering lots of personality as the music shifted from serious to playful, with Terry always providing a sympathetic accompaniment.
