The OnePlus Nord marked the brand’s long-awaited return to the mid-range space, and it definitely lived up to expectations. Between the respectable level of power, the fast wired charging, and that 90Hz OLED screen, OnePlus delivered a great all-around experience. It doesn’t hurt that the Nord offers a fair amount of bang for the buck, coming in at €399 (~$492) in Europe and Rs 24,999 (~$342) in India. That doesn’t mean there isn’t room for improvement, however. We can think of several additions and changes we’d make to a OnePlus Nord 2.

This past year has been an important one for Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus. With seven years of experience under its belt, the company used 2020 to cement its ambitions. It has now officially moved away from its niche beginnings and will play on the main stage with the other big names.
Of course, that transition inevitably required some growing pains. This year, the company released more phones than it ever has previously, and that forced it to drop down its quality control a bit. It revamped Oxygen OS in a number of ambitious ways, which caused some controversies. It also lost Carl Pei a company co-founder who represented the young, risk-taking half of brand leadership.
Continuing the rollout with better coverage
At the very least, 2021 will yield wider rollouts in existing markets. New towns and cities will continue to come online. Coverage will become broader and more consistent. However, we’re still more than a year away from a global picture that will rival the coverage currently afforded by 4G LTE.
Still, networks continue to advance, and 2021 will bring a number of 5G improvements to various countries around the world. For instance, preliminary mmWave rollouts are scheduled across Europe, China, Latin America, Australia, and parts of southeast Asia throughout 2021. They are joining the US, South Korea, and Japan who are already using this technology in places. mmWave boasts multi-gigabit data speeds over short distances. It is destined for high-capacity areas such as around sports stadiums and city centers.
According to a new rumor, OnePlus could launch a OnePlus 9 Lite next year.
The source of the rumor also suggests that the phone could come with a Snapdragon 865 processor.
Theoretically, this phone would be cheaper than the OnePlus 9 and significantly cheaper than the OnePlus 9 Pro.
It looks like OnePlus is ready to outdo itself in 2021 when it comes to the number of phones it launches in one go. According to a rumor stemming from an anonymous “insider source” speaking with
Android Central, the company could launch three phones in the OnePlus 9 series early next year. They would be a vanilla OnePlus 9, a Pro variant, and a new Lite variant, allegedly.
