The Biden administration has flown roughly 2,000 asylum seekers all families with children from Texas to San Diego and expelled them from the United States to Mexico without giving them a chance to request protection.
Tijuana has been receiving on average about 100 expelled people a day from the flights, according to the Mexican consulate in San Diego. Mexican immigration officials generally transport the families to migrant shelters. The primary shelter is currently filled with hundreds of parents and children.
The flights, which have not received much attention since they started in mid-March, mirrors strategies used by President Joe Biden’s predecessor, former President Donald Trump, to try to deter people from coming by putting those who do come in difficult situations in Mexico.

Democrats Rebuff GOP Calls for Public Hearings on Border Crisis
Top Senate Democrats have rebuffed a GOP request to hold an ad hoc public hearing on the border crisis and to question Department of Homeland Security (DHS) leadership, saying that the annual DHS oversight hearing that will be scheduled “in due course” will provide an opportunity for Republicans to question administration officials about the situation along the U.S.-Mexico border.
In a sharply worded April 9 letter, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Senate Immigration Subcommittee Chairman Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) wrote that when Republicans chaired the committee and subcommittee during President Donald Trump’s tenure, Democrats requests for hearings and oversight action on Trump’s border policies faced pushback.

[They] came into the country illegally, ran across, just got apprehended by Border Patrol agents and it s going around all us. We ve only been here for less than an hour and we ve already seen multiple people coming across.Probably over 100 people in the last hour, Scalise said. And they re coming into America because Joe Biden has created this magnet where he said, The border s open and look at what s happening, he added.
