Will river cruising return to Europe this summer? Most lines say yes: Travel Weekly

Jeri Clausing The recent news about Europe reopening to vaccinated travelers this summer was, obviously, welcome news for the long-shuttered river cruise industry. But with opening dates and details on country-specific buy-in for welcoming travelers still elusive, river operators say it s too soon to say exactly when the season will resume. Still, there s renewed optimism about getting Americans back on Europe s waterways this summer, and possibly sooner than was widely predicted just a month ago. Finally, things are looking up, said Marcus Leskovar, executive vice president of Amadeus River Cruises, which ran a limited series of sailings last summer for European guests. We are currently planning to start the season in June and are preparing for the first group of American passengers onboard a Rhone cruise on July 1, with more American passengers to follow that month and a full return to sailings for Americans in August.

Silversea to Require All Guests to Be Fully Vaccinated Silversea Cruises will require all guests to have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.   The cruise line said this is “in line with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendations for safe international travel and in recognition of the importance of COVID-19 vaccinations in ensuring the safety of travelers.” The requirement also applies to crew members.  It joins other cruise lines have also implemented a vaccine requirement, including Celebrity Cruises, Riviera River Cruises, and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings. Silversea also revealed new sailings aboard Silver Moon  – the cruise line’s new flagship. Beginning June 18, the 10-day itineraries will sail the Eastern Mediterranean from Greece, with calls to Santorini, Paros, Mykonos, and Crete, as well as Haifa (Israel) and Cyprus. 

Riviera River Cruises to require vaccines, negative Covid tests: Travel Weekly

| The George Eliot, a Riviera River Cruises ship. The line has established its protocols for boarding when cruising resumes. Riviera River Cruises will require all guests to be fully vaccinated against or present a negative test for Covid-19 when European river cruising resumes, the company announced today. Riviera joins Viking in adopting such mandates. Viking has said it will require vaccines for guests on all of its river and ocean sailings beginning May 22 and will do occasional onboard testing throughout their sailings. Most other European and international river cruise operators have said they expect to follow government and airline requirements.
