JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A small Jacksonville pharmacy is the first small business in Duval County to offer the COVID-19 vaccine to the general public.
Staff at Panama Pharmacy on North Main Street started giving out the first dose of the Moderna vaccine to patients this week. Other pharmacists will be offering it to the general public by appointment only starting Monday. The vaccines are reserved for residents 65 and older and healthcare workers, but there is a waitlist for anyone who wants the shot.

The Florida Department of Health Friday announced a new statewide preregistration system to schedule COVID-19 vaccine appointments for individuals 65 and older and frontline health-care workers.
But by noon on Friday, the site was already overloaded, showing this message: Sorry we have too many simultaneous visitors, please try again in five minutes.
The new system, which can be accessed by visiting myvaccine.fl.gov, allows individuals to pre-register for vaccine appointments and receive notification when appointments are available in their area, according to a release from the Department of Health.
The system will notify individuals who are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine when appointment are available at state-supported vaccination sites, the release stated.

SUN CITY CENTER, Fla. – Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday said Florida is working on expanding a statewide online vaccine registration system. DeSantis said the state hopes to have the system set up for all state-run vaccination sites by the end of the week.
As of Wednesday, the only state-run site in Duval County, located at the Regency Square Mall, is only taking reservations over the phone. Right now, people over 65 and healthcare workers have to call in and manually enter information like date of birth and zip code and then wait for a call back with an appointment time.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville woman who’s already received her first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine said she’s hit a roadblock when it comes to getting shot number two.
Ashley Claypool, 41, said she was staying at an assisted living facility when she got the shot on Dec. 21. The state has prioritized persons 65+ years of age for the vaccine, but Claypool said she was still offered the vaccine at The Fountains at Mill Cove.
