BROCKVILLE, Ontario – Upper Canada District School Board  (UCDSB) Director of Education Stephen Sliwa has announced that he will retire on June 30, 2021 after 35 years in the teaching profession. “I am grateful for the privilege of serving students, the Board of Trustees, and the local community during my time as the Director of Education,” said Sliwa. “I have enjoyed the opportunity to provide leadership to staff, who have significantly elevated the operation of our schools and have generated a greater range of partnerships in our community that enhance the experiences of our students.”

Health-care worker from Pembroke area tests positive for COVID-19

Article content The Renfrew County and District Health Unit is reporting one new positive case of COVID-19 – a health-care worker employed in Renfrew County and district who resides in the Pembroke area. The Dec. 11 updated case summary showed 24 health-care workers, including 12 employed outside of Renfrew County and district (up one from the previous day). There have also been changes to the number of community and school cases. The RCDHU is now reporting 19 school cases (seven staff members and 12 students), but the number of community cases is 147 (down one from Dec. 10). It appears as though the latest school case was initially reported as a community case then adjusted.

RCDHU confirms staff member linked to three RCDSB schools tests positive for COVID-19

Article content The Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU) in collaboration with the Renfrew County District School Board (RCDSB), is confirming that one staff member linked to three schools – Opeongo High School, Madawaska Valley District High School and Sherwood Public School – has a positive laboratory-confirmed case of novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19). All students and staff who have been deemed to be a close contact of the positive case, have been given direction to go home immediately to self-isolate and arrange for testing. The schools remain open to in-person learning for all other students and staff, according to a RCDHU release issued Thursday afternoon.
