There s been a hole in the Bombers outfield ever since center fielder Aaron Hicks went down with a season-ending wrist injury. That paved the way for Brett Gardner to get plenty of playing time in his age-37 season, rather than providing depth as this team s fourth outfielder.
Now, manager Aaron Boone has an All-Star caliber outfielder to pencil into the lineup day in and day out.
Gallo, 27, is hitting .223 (69-for-310) through 95 games this season in Texas, clubbing 25 home runs and driving in 55 runs. He s a two-time All-Star (making the team this year), a slugger who s blasted 40-plus homers in two single seasons and a Gold Glove Award winner for his defense in 2020.
Rangers trade Gallo to Yankees

It doesn’t sound like it is official yet, but likely close enough.
Joey Gallo is one guy I really would have liked for the Blue Jays, even if we are up to our arm pits in outfielders. Every OOTP version that comes out, I try to trade for Gallo. Good defense, power and walks..what’s not to like. I guess a high batting average would be ok too, but rarely do you get everything. I do worry a bit about how well he’ll age. Now I’ll cheer for him to age quickly.

July 29, 7:20am: The Rangers are paying all of Gallo’s remaining contract, tweets Jim Bowden of The Athletic. MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand tweets that Texas will pay “most” of the deal. Either way, the Rangers’ inclusion of cash and the Yankees’ recent trade of Justin Wilson suggests they’re still angling to remain under the luxury tax. Getting financial help from Texas will free them to continue pursuing other additions.

With the rest ofthe American League loading up, the Yankees finally made their move. The Bombers consummated a long-rumored deal, acquiring outfielder Joey Gallo from the Rangers. Jeff Passan reports he trade is pending a medical review. The Yankees will also receive left-handed pitcher
John King Joely Rodríguez. The deal is not confirmed yet, but the signs are pointing in that direction.
Gallo, 27, brings some added pop to a lineup that’s had its ups and downs in 2021. He’s slashed a robust .223/.379/.490, which equates to a sparkling 139 OPS+. Gallo has only appeared in right field this season, but has experience in left, at both infield corners, and even in center.
