PM appoints vaccine committee - The Nassau Guardian

PM appoints vaccine committee Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis during a national address last night. While noting that The Bahamas might experience a spike in COVID-19 cases before it obtains a vaccine, Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis announced last night that Dr. Merceline Dahl-Regis, special health advisor to the Office of the Prime Minister, will chair the recently established COVID-19 Vaccine National Consultative Committee. Dahl-Regis told The Nassau Guardian that the committee will meet tomorrow. She said committee members include Bishop Delton Fernander, president of the Bahamas Christian Council; Dr. Marcella Elliott-Ferguson, vice president of administrative services at the University of The Bahamas; Stephaine Dean, a retired public health nurse; Dr. Danny Davis, a consultant at the Ministry of Health; Ed Fields, tourism industry veteran; and Keith Cartwright.

Five die in holiday crashes

tsmith-cartwright@tribunemedia.net TRIBUTES poured out on social media after the tragic deaths of a married couple who died in a horrific three-car collision on Christmas night. Brent and Eulona Johnson, owners of “The Sweet Life” ice cream shop in the Mall at Marathon, died on the scene of the accident which took place at West Bay Street and Blake Road around 6pm Friday. Their children were also said to be injured in the accident. The Johnsons were among five people who died within three days as a result of four traffic accidents across three islands. According to police, a black Honda Accord, a burgundy Nissan March and a black Chevy Malibu were the cars involved in the accident. The Johnsons were driving the Nissan March. Police inspected the vehicles and discovered that six occupants of the various vehicles sustained injuries as a result of the accident.

Seven dead in separate incidents over the holidays

Shooting, homicide, alleged suicide on Bimini, Abaco, GB respectively  NASSAU, BAHAMAS Police have reported the deaths of at least seven individuals in separate incidents throughout the country that took place within just three days, spanning from Christmas Eve on December 24 to December 26. Shortly after 7am on Thursday, December 24, a 21-year-old man on Grand Bahama succumbed to injuries he sustained in a traffic accident a week prior. Police said on December 18, the man was driving a brown Honda Accord on Queen’s Highway shortly after 10pm when he lost control of the car and hit three vehicles before crashing into a brick wall.

Grand Bahamian found hanging in his home on Raleigh Drive…

FREEPORT| A 43-year-old Grand Bahama man was found hanging from the ceiling of a home on Raleigh Drive on Christmas Day. The man’s body was discovered after 1pm Friday. However, he had not been seen alive since 5am on Christmas Eve. It is unclear how long he had been hanging from the ceiling before his body was discovered. His body was transported to Rand Memorial Hospital where he was officially pronounced dead by a physician there. According to police, foul play is not suspected but they await the results of a pathologist’s report. SHARE

Scaled down Christmas visit by Governor General

The event – which is usually a big affair for the hospital and its staff – was scaled down significantly due to COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions. Mr Smith, and his wife, Clara, received a red-carpet welcome on their arrival around 11am last Thursday at the grounds of the Freeport Community Clinic, where the event was held due to major renovations underway at RMH. Governor General Smith commended public healthcare workers in Grand Bahama for working under adverse conditions, while continuing to provide outstanding care and professional service to patients.
