The awards keep rolling in for the 2021 Ram 1500. This time the Ram 1500 repeats as a winner in a top safety category.

Once again, the 2021 Ram 1500 is leading the way when it comes to safety. The Ram 1500 is the only pickup truck to earn a 2021 Insurance Institute for Highway Safety - Top Safety Pick Rating. The 2021 Ram 1500 won the same rating last year for Ram 1500 crew cab trucks. This year’s IIHS Top Safety Pick honor focused on Ram 1500s equipped with the Advanced Safety Group package of safety features.
And the winner is…
For the second year in a row, the Ram 1500 has earned the coveted Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Of course, not all Ram 1500s are created equal; only the Crew Cab models equipped with the Advanced Safety Group suite of features counts. Fortunately, this is a popular combo among customers, and for those who might be wondering, yes, even the Hellcat-powered Ram 1500 TRX counts for this coveted rating.
The IIHS requires vehicles to come with Pedestrian Automatic Emergency Braking in order to achieve this status, and the Ram full-size truck earned an advanced rating. Aiding safety, the truck has a sensor-fusion Automatic Emergency Braking system that blends camera technology with radar sensors to determine whether there s about to be an imminent frontal impact with another vehicle.

After it managed to get a top rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) last year, the 2021 incarnation of Ram’s 1500 pickup truck succeeded in scoring equally as high this week, becoming the first truck to achieve such a feat this year. 1 photo
The rating procedure has been for a while a bit tougher than before, as the latest system IIHS requires from cars and trucks chasing the coveted Top Safety Pick designation is pedestrian automatic emergency braking.
Ram’s solution is an evolution of the automatic emergency braking system, which uses cameras and radars to determine if an impact is imminent. Just like all others of its kind, once such a determination has been made, the driver is alerted and, if no action is taken, the system brakes automatically.
