RCHD receives 2,500 COVID vaccine doses Thursday The Riley County Health Department received 2500 COVID-19 vaccine doses from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) Thursday. Health Department Director Julie Gibbs says the shipment should cover the first dose for those eligible to receive the vaccine during phase one of the state’s distribution plan. “We hope to have all of our health care providers, or phase one vaccinated by the end of next week. Keep in mind, this would be the first dose for many of them. We are working on our second dose for those that we were able to do between Christmas and New Year’s,” she said.

This brings the total number of positive cases in the county to 5,278 since March, with 462 active cases.  Along with the new positive cases, the county is seeing 24 additional recoveries, bringing the total since March to 4,794. Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan is caring for 14 positive patients and 1 PUI. A Person Under Investigation is someone experiencing symptoms who is waiting for test results. The Riley County Health Department will update their vaccine rollout plan to include the new guidance from Governor Laura Kelly to prioritize those 65 and older to a higher phase and include all healthcare workers in the first phase.

It’s simply because we don’t have an idea of how much vaccine we’ll be getting and when we’ll be getting our next shipment,” she said.
