The weekly percent positive rate of new coronavirus transmissions the final week of January was the lowest in Riley County since mid-October.
Riley County health officials confirmed Wednesday a 5.2 percent positive rate for the week ending Jan. 30 with 148 positive tests out of 2,868 total tests. It’s the lowest percent positive rate since the transmission rate was 5 percent the week ending Oct. 17 when the county confirmed 55 positive cases out of 1,105 total tests.
The health department has identified 23 new positive cases and 18 more recoveries since its previous report on Monday. Ascension Via Christi continues to care for five positive patients, including one who is in the Intensive Care Unit.
Riley County confirms five new COVID related deaths, 127 new positives

Riley County health officials have confirmed five additional COVID-19 related deaths since Friday, bringing the total number of deaths to 28.
Each of the patients ranged in age from 46 to 85. The health department also confirmed 127 new cases and 306 additional recoveries since Friday. Ascension Via Christi is caring for 12 positive patients, down from a high of 25 last week. One of those patients is in the Intensive Care Unit. The percent positive rate of infection was 9.9 percent for Jan. 10 through Jan. 16, with 355 positives out of 2,788 total tests.
Riley County confirms 19th COVID related death, 55 new cases

The Riley County Health Department reported the lowest number of new COVID-19 infections in nearly a month Wednesday as the percent positive rate also continued to go down.
The health department confirmed 55 new infections, the lowest since Nov. 18 when 56 new cases were identified. In addition, 52 more recoveries were tallied. The total number of active cases is 343.
Health officials also confirmed the 19th COVID related death in the county, an 89-year-old man who died at the hospital this week, after testing positive Nov. 30. Ascension Via Christi is caring for seven positive patients and two persons under investigation. Two patients are in the ICU.
