In Paterson, as it has been in many towns and cities across the country since the killing of George Floyd by a former Minneapolis Police Officer, the relationship between residents and police officers is more tense than it has been in years. Locally, allegations of police brutality and the arrests of 10 officers in the last few years are fresh in city residents’ mind.
Lines start forming at 2 a.m. for final day of city of Miami’s grocery card giveaway

MIAMI, Fla. – In the city of Miami’s District 5, there were already people waiting in line at 2 a.m. at Little Haiti Soccer Park for a grocery card giveaway that was set to open at 9 a.m.
This was the last giveaway event before Christmas. On Wednesday, along with the Little Haiti location, cards were also being distributed in Roberto Clemente Park. The money was intended to assist residents affected by job loss and other income hardship due to the pandemic.
While many showed up early and waited for hours, some still left empty handed.

MIAMI – The line wrapped around several blocks and some people even camped out to make sure they would have a chance to pick up one of the $250 Publix gift cards the City of Miami is distributing for residents in need.
The giveaway is funded by money from the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
“I came out here about 11 [last] night,” resident Juan Ponce said.
Five hundred gift cars were distributed Tuesday morning at Jose Marti Park. Other spots in Miami like Little Haiti Soccer Park and Roberto Clemente Park were also doing gift card distributions Tuesday.
