NC coronavirus update March 16: Wake and Cumberland school districts to consider allowing all students back to class soon

9:40 p.m. In one sense, it s a great step, but I think we shouldn t have waited this long to get the vaccine, said Rita McDaniel, who has several high-risk conditions that make her eligible to receive a vaccine as part of Group 4. While the state recently bumped up the timeline by a week for the first part of Group 4, they had earlier moved people with chronic conditions down from Group 2 to Group 4. (Having) to wait this long, it s given us a wide span of time to catch the virus. So some of my friends will not come out of the house, will not venture out, have food delivered to them, and their groceries. Some of the people I know will carry on like (usual), but they wear a mask, said McDaniel.

Mission receives donation in the spirit of Christmas

ROANOKE RAPIDS — The spirit of Santa is within Craig Ivey this year. He donated $10,000 to the Union Mission, according to Sabrina Lawson, mission executive director. Ivey gave the amount of $10,000 after he asked Lawson to double the highest individual donation they had received, which was $5,000. His aim for the giving is Hodgestown, which was his home on Wilkins Street, Lawson said. Now he lives in Florida. “He said, ‘I really want to see kids get a good Christmas in Hodgestown,’ ” Lawson said. “His life has changed, he has moved away and wants to give back to his community.” Ivey also told her to save some of the money for the mission to purchase food, supplies and other needs of the community it serves.
