STOCKBRIDGE â The U.S. governmentâs on-again, off-again shutdown of the compact neighborhood post office serving 86 box holders in the village of Glendale is back on, this time, for sure.
In a letter to customers dated Jan. 13, Paul Buttafuoco, U.S. Postal Service operations manager, said the facility will close at noon on Feb. 20 because âthe landlord is not renewing our lease.â Two days later, customers will begin picking up their mail at the main downtown post office.
Itâs âdeja vu all over againâ following the Postal Serviceâs âemergency suspension of serviceâ order issued in mid-November to take effect Nov. 21, without an official explanation. But the order was met by strong pushback from town officials, since it came on short notice in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
STOCKBRIDGE â In a move intended to protect residential areas from late-night music and noise, the Select Board has reinstated its policy of limiting annual entertainment licenses to an 11 p.m. curfew.
But, for weddings, late-running theater productions or special events, board Chairman Ernest âChuckieâ Cardillo encouraged destinations like Tanglewood, the Berkshire Theatre Festival and the Wheatleigh resort to apply for special licenses allowing extended hours, when needed. He indicated that such permits would be granted routinely and rapidly.
âIn the past, with the exception of last year, this is how we functioned in the residential zoning areas,â Select Board member Roxanne McCaffrey commented at the Dec. 17 remote meeting.
